Just not my usual rainbows and butterflies self.
I can usually muster enthusiasm and excitement even if I am feeling unwell.
Yet here I am feeling well and I can't muster it. MEH..
So I decided a mini project was in order.
The project was a themed dinner to celebrate the end of holidays.
Or just to have a fun dinner.
The theme I decided on was Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.
We watched both movies and ate themed food.
(All pics just snapped with my phone. Sorry I am not flasher than that.)
I set this up just before kids arrived home
So you know what all the crap on the table is.
So you know in the movie how Violet gets the chewing gum that is like a 3 course meal?
Tomato soup, roast beef and then blueberry pie (then she turns into a blueberry).
I did my take on that with tomato soup, roast beef sandwiches and then mini blueberry pie things.
I had never made blueberry pie and y'all it is amazing and easy and did I say amazing. YUM.
Recipe I used for filling is HERE and I used normal puff pastry.
Just clicked I don't have a pic of the soup. Lets be honest we can all imagine a mug of soup? Good.
Roast beef sandwiches with golden tickets (or yellow ones. It was the closest I had)
Blueberry pie filling. OMG. YUM
Mini pies (or foldovers)
Drinks for the evening were fizzy lifting drinks (you know the scene where they float up and have to burp to go down).
And chocolate river drink (Wonka gave me some of his river just special).
We also have Wonka pudding (chocolate mousse).
Then we dipped stuff in fondue sauce. Apples, banana, chocolate chip cookies and these little bear snack things (I did also have small cups of marshmallows but we didn't get to them)
I also have jars of wonka candies for each of us.
But we were so full at the end we didn't think it was a good idea to start on them.
I have promised them they can have the tomorrow.
At the end I did open the wonka chocolate just so we could each try some because the kids begged.
We can have more tomorrow.
It was a really fun night.
We watched both films.
We laughed and joked.
We ate good food.
The kids LOVED the little details and timing of things when I handed them lifting fizzy drinks as the actors were drinking theirs etc.
Overall it was a real winner of a night.
I am already planning #2 in my head.
The next movie will be Alice in wonderland.
Mini milk bottles, cupcake cups, twine, washi tape and carnival tickets I used can all be purchased from poprocparties. They are an amazing company to deal with. I have always been super happy with the service and products.
A dear friend Tracy from the Scrapheap also sells twine and washi in her online store. Her washi is very well priced.
(I don't receive anything for mentioning them, they are just stores I purchase from and I feel confident in their service.
